(Seven Minutes In Heaven)
My love of performing and theater is a long-time passion that started before I can even remember. Growing up, I grasped every opportunity I could to be involved in any production. As I continued to train and hone my skills, I learned that my passions in theater lie far beyond just being on the stage. My interests in theater vary from stage management, design, acting, playwriting, to administrative and management work. My passion in theater has and always will be to be as well-rounded as possible.
When not working on a show and attending performances, I am immersed in not just the show itself, but everything on and off the stage and behind the curtains. In any scene, I will find myself either noticing where the stage manager’s cues may be called, where a costume change happened, when a sound cue fired, or details that may not be obvious to most theater-goers. I will even notice details involved with the concession stands, lobby décor, or house management efficiency. The way I observe a show is very similar to the way I work on a show. I’m able to see the big picture to the smallest detail, beyond the story itself, to conceptualize how the production will realistically and logically come together.
In my younger years, I started practicing theater through summer camps, summer intensives and during school productions. In high school, when not performing in the show, I began directing and producing them. In my senior year of high school, as the president of the drama club, I produced and directed my high school’s first ever musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. During the course of this show, I took care of the casting, directing, space rental, ticket sales, marketing, stage management, choreography, costumes, set, lights and sound. Even though there were students helping out within these various areas, I was providing guidance and oversaw all of these aspects come together. It was during this project, that I could finally articulate where my passions in theater lie: not just with acting, directing, or another specific role, but to coordinate and blend all departments, both artistic and administrative, into one performance. While that’s the big picture for me, I love working on any and all positions within the realm of theater.
In college, I became very exposed to theatrical design and stage management. I studied scenic, costume, lighting, sound and props design. My senior capstone project ended up being a year-long project including three fully-realized set designs. While I have an all-encompassing love of theater and want to be as involved with all aspects as I can on any given show, I’m leaning more towards theatrical management positions.
Currently, I am working with The Legacy Theatre as their Company Manager.
